New CEO for Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Springfield

It’s a move that’s brought him back home to southwest Missouri and kept him involved in a type of health care he finds particularly rewarding. Jerry Wise has joined Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Springfield as the new chief executive officer (CEO).

Wise grew up about 60 miles from Springfield, in Richland, Missouri. He earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Missouri State University and served as a clinic accountant with Mercy Springfield before moving to St. Louis to take on the role of chief financial officer for Mercy’s rehabilitation hospital there. “Working in rehabilitation affords you the opportunity to see some life-changing results for patients and their families,” he said. “Despite the debilitating events in their lives, I know we do all we can to get them back home and functioning as close to normal as possible.”

Wise says he’s found a great group of co-workers at the Springfield facility. “I have been impressed with their willingness to do whatever necessary to care for our patients,” he explained. “We are growing and everyone has been vested in that process. We’re all eager to learn.”

Wise and his wife have two young daughters who are excited to be at a new school and close to their family in the Ozarks.

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Springfield is a 63,000 square foot facility with 60 beds. It provides inpatient rehabilitation for patients who are recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries and other conditions. It’s a partnership between Mercy and Kindred Healthcare, Inc. Kindred has partnered with Mercy for similar projects in St. Louis, Missouri, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
