Mercy Offers More Workshops on Living a Healthier Life

Are ongoing health conditions keeping you from enjoying life? Let Mercy help you get back to doing what you love with a series of classes in the coming weeks.

Mercy Arthritis Center is once again sponsoring free, six-week workshops to help people manage lung and heart disease, arthritis and diabetes. Each program is developed by Stanford University’s Patient Education Research Center with the following goals:

Improve your knowledge of living a healthy life with a chronic condition Identify and learn the latest pain management approaches Learn to manage fatigue and stress more effectively Find solutions to problems caused by your condition Identify ways to deal with anger, fear, frustration, depression Discuss the role of exercise and nutrition in chronic disease management Learn new ways to communicate with family and friends Learn how to form a partnership with your health care team

Classes will begin Aug. 12 at Lebanon First United Methodist Church, 300 N. Madison Ave., in Lebanon, Mo. and will continue every Tuesday through Sept. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. While the class is free, you do need to register. Just call (417) 269-2278.

Classes will also be held at Dade County OACAC Center, 150 Main St., in Greenfield, Mo. from Monday, Aug. 18 through Sept. 29. The class will run from 1-3:30 p.m. To register, call (417) 637-2701.

The Missouri Extension Center, located at 800 S. Marshall St. in Marshfield, Mo., will hold classes from Thursday, Sept. 4 until Oct. 9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Call (417) 207-1304 to register.

Starting Sept. 9, weekly classes will be held at St. Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson Ave., in Springfield, Mo., through Tuesday, Oct. 14. Call (417) 888-6787 to sign up for the sessions, which will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each week.

The $20 fee for each course has been waived, thanks to a grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Participants will also receive a free book, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”
