Mercy Health Foundation Awards Grants
Wednesday morning, Mercy presented $41,429 in grants to 17 organizations. The money comes from a fund the foundation established at the Community Foundation of the Ozarks in 2001. Since then, Mercy Health Foundation has awarded more than $433,000.
“The annual grant cycle offers such a great opportunity for Mercy to share our mission with the community,” said Andrea Makoski, annual giving manager with Mercy Health Foundation. “During this season of thanksgiving, we are so grateful for the programs and services that our local organizations provide.”
The Doula Foundation in Springfield is one of the recipients. The money will help provide necessary items and training to new and expectant mothers. Community-based doulas are trained community health workers with skills in home visiting and family support. “We are tremendously excited to have this generous support from Mercy,” said Faith Giedd, CEO of the Doula Foundation. “These funds will be critically important to us as we continue to support mothers, babies and their families here in Springfield.”
Organizations received anywhere from $500 to $7,500. Recipients include the Pregnancy Care Center, the Doula Foundation, Boys & Girls Club of Springfield, Lifeskills Touchpoint Autism Services, Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks – Branson Area, Children's Smile Center, the Family Violence Center/Harmony House, Fordland Clinic, HOPE Alliance of Missouri, Least of These, Lost and Found, Ozarks Food Harvest, People Helping People – Republic, the Pregnancy Life Line, Tri-County Pregnancy Resource Center, Arc of the Ozarks and the Victim Center.
As a nonprofit hospital, philanthropy plays an important role in helping to make Mercy’s special brand of compassionate and exceptional care possible. In fact, since 1891, Mercy has relied on the philanthropic support of thousands of generous community residents, patients and friends.
