Mercy Dedicates New Children’s Starlight Fun Center
Mercy has recently dedicated the Starlight® Fun Center® Mobile Entertainment Unit it received from the Starlight Children’s Foundation through a partnership with Wyndham Hotel Group and Days Inn South Springfield. The unit contains a video monitor, Nintendo Wii console and DVD player; it rolls bedside in hospitals to provide therapeutic entertainment.
“This fun center will help give children a great distraction from a hospital setting,” said Ashley Wilson, Mercy Kids child life specialist. “Entertainment, especially for our kids, has great healing power. We rely on donations like this to provide opportunities for normalization, comfort and continued development for our patients while in the hospital. We feel so fortunate to be accepting this generous gift on behalf of Mercy Kids."
Mercy Kids, a network of children’s care, is home to more than 50 pediatric specialists in Springfield whose areas of expertise include everything from hematology and oncology to neurosurgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, behavioral health, psychiatry and more.
Starlight Fun Centers have been sponsored by companies, foundations and individuals for use in hospitals across North America. If you are interested in sponsoring a Starlight Tablet, visit starlight.org to search Starlight Wish Lists.
