To mark National Adoption Month, Mercy Family Resource Center is offering a free “Adoption Options” seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to answer questions even before they’re on the minds of potential moms and dads.
Speakers will help attendees decide which options are right for them, decipher key words and phrases, outline the process and navigate the legal aspects of adoption. There will also be community resources available.
“Adoption Options” will be presented by a highly experienced Mercy team, Lutheran Family & Children’s Services, Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, Southwest Baptist University, and local attorneys Karenanne Miller and Linda Thomas.
During the month of November, Mercy Springfield will display two adoption-themed photo galleries. A “Courageous Love” display inside the Mercy Family Resource Center will show Ozarks families who have adopted through foster care. The other gallery, in the main lobby of the Mercy Children’s Hospital, will display photos of children who are looking to be adopted.
“My grandson is adopted and he’s been such a blessing to our family,” said Cindy Whitten, said vice president of women’s services and the children’s hospital. “These kids are just looking for a ‘forever family’ and someone to love them.”
The Mercy Family Resource Center supplies education and support for families in the Ozarks. Its programs include prenatal classes, breastfeeding support and community education that tackles topics from the latest in adult treatment options and research to puberty discussions for boys and girls.
No RSVP is needed for the event. Media members are welcome to attend. It’s set for Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Hammons Heart Institute auditorium at 1325 E. Cherokee St.
